Tasting God’s Goodness

In Psalm 34, David encourages us to magnify the Lord and to join together in exalting Him. He tells us that he sought the Lord and God answered him with deliverance. David cried out and the Lord heard him and saved him. The Psalm also calls us to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (verse 8). Just as Jesus told Satan in the wilderness (quoting Deuteronomy 8:3) that “Man does not live by bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God,” David recognized that “tasting” the word of God shows us His goodness.

Each week as we prepare to gather and worship together, we examine the songs that we sing and seek to find truth in the lyrics that help us behold the Gospel. The song Psalm 34 is taken directly from scripture and is a great reminder of the goodness of our God, who hears our cry, delivers us from every fear and saves us out of every trouble. Our prayer is that you will join us this week in magnifying the Lord and exalting His name!

And delivered me

From every fear

Those who look on Him

Are radiant

They'll never be ashamed

This poor man cried

And the Lord heard me

And saved me from

My enemies

The Son of God

Surrounds His saints

He will deliver them

Magnify the Lord with me
